Why Being Canadian Is Important
For many organizations, there are strict law enforcements on keeping data and information compliant to industry regulations. For those without standards by law, there are still benefits to hosting data with a 100% Canadian company.
Backbone is 100% Canadian. We own all our own servers and infrastructure, never using systems outside of our control. Our servers are stored in wholly Canadian-owned data centres and we only employ Canadian employees. Our standard setup will ensure that your data will always stay within Canada's boundaries.
Many hosting organizations are based in the United States, or have partial American ownership and staff, meaning that your information is not only subject to the US Patriot Act, but could also be susceptible to US government searches and seizure. This may be in direct conflict with compliancy requirements of your industry.
The Canadian Privacy Commissioner protects the privacy of Canadian citizens' information and investigates any failures in compliancy. If your critical information is stored outside of Canada, the office will have no power to protect you and your data. Canadian companies should review their federal and provincial data management requirements as well as any industry regulations that they may be subjected to in order to know in advance that your data management practices adhere to the guidelines, protecting your clients' data as well as your business.
